When Ellen Nellie De Garnham was born on 1 August 1877, in Invercargill, Southland, New Zealand, her father, George De Garnham, was 29 and her mother, Catherine Phoebe Kirkham, was 29. She married Robert Henry Scadden on 8 July 1896, in Invercargill, Southland, New Zealand. She died on 11 July 1896, in her hometown, at the age of 18, and was buried in Eastern Cemetery, Ascot, Southland, New Zealand.

1887 · New Zealands's First National Park

Tongariro National Park was the sixth national park established in the world and the first in New Zealand.
