When Ellen Nellie De Garnham was born on 1 August 1877, in Invercargill, New Zealand, her father, George De Garnham, was 29 and her mother, Catherine Phoebe Kirkham, was 29. She died on 11 July 1896, in her hometown, at the age of 18, and was buried in Eastern Cemetery, Ascot, Invercargill, New Zealand.
