When Jacob Tarwater Sr was born on 13 April 1745, in Hesse, Germany, his father, Johann Peter Dürwächter, was 51 and his mother, Anna Catharina Hummel, was 45. He married MODELENA Kate Wolford in 1765. They were the parents of at least 6 sons and 4 daughters. He died on 1 November 1798, in Neubert Springs, Knox, Tennessee, United States, at the age of 53, and was buried in Knox, Tennessee, United States.
