When Mary Louise Roe was born about 1886, in Quebec, Canada, her father, Frank Gordon Roe, was 13 and her mother, Mary Stone, was 21. She married Asa Harold Monroe on 23 June 1914, in Stavely, MD of Willow Creek No. 26, Alberta, Canada. They were the parents of at least 5 sons and 2 daughters. She lived in Prairie Township, Howard, Missouri, United States in 1920 and Judicial Township 10, Placer, California, United States in 1930. She died on 3 January 1961, in California, United States, at the age of 76.

1891 · Angel Island Serves as Quarantine Station

Angel Island served as a quarantine station for those diagnosed with bubonic plague beginning in 1891. A quarantine station was built on the island which was funded by the federal government at the cost of $98,000. The disease spread to port cities around the world, including the San Francisco Bay Area, during the third bubonic plague pandemic, which lasted through 1909.

Name Meaning

English: nickname from Middle English ro(o) ‘roe deer’ (Old English ). This is the midland and southern form, also found in South Yorkshire and Lancashire. In much of northern England, however, remained unrounded and survives as Ray 3.

English: post-medieval variant of Wroe (see Wray ). Wroe may also have been used as a spelling of Roe .
