When Mikkel Mogensen was born in 1703, in Vesterbølle, Hald, Denmark, his father, Mogens Mikkelsen, was 25 and his mother, Kirsten Jensdatter, was 22. He married Margrethe Elisabeth Clausdatter Borch on 2 February 1735, in Kirkcudbrightshire, Scotland, United Kingdom. He died in April 1735, in Vester Bølle, Viborg, Denmark, at the age of 32, and was buried in Vesterbølle, Hald, Denmark.

The Royal Danish Military Academy educated and commissioned all officers for the Royal Danish Army. The Military Academy function was initiated in 1713 by request of King Frederick IV on inspiration from the Naval Academy.
