When Giovanni Hans Compagnoni was born on 23 November 1821, in Poschiavo, Graubünden, Switzerland, his father, Giuseppe Compagnoni, was 25 and his mother, Margarita Lanfranchin, was 22. He married Anna Maria Schuemacher on 1 May 1850. They were the parents of at least 7 sons. He died on 1 March 1888, in Como, Lombardy, Italy, at the age of 66.
