She married Israel Jones on 8 March 1759, in Colchester, Hartford, Connecticut Colony, British Colonial America. She died on 26 June 1786, in Salem, New London, Connecticut, United States, at the age of 48.

1763 · First Synagogue in America

The first Jewish Synagogue in America was built in Newport, Rhode Island in 1763. It still stands today, making it the oldest synagogue in the United States.

1772 · The Gaspee Affair

On June 9, 1772, colonists that are angry with the trade restrictions that Britain put them under, board the HMS Gaspee and set it ablaze. This was the first act of violence against the British on the North American continent.

Name Meaning

English and Scottish: variant of Gardner .

History: Lion Gardiner came from England in 1635 to Saybrook, CT, the settlement of Earl of Warwick patentees at the mouth of the Connecticut River, and built a fort there. Born in 1636, his son, David, was the first white child born in the settlement. Lion later bought the Isle of Wight, now Gardiners Island, from the Indians, and moved his family there until 1653, when he bought land in what is now Easthampton, Long Island, NY.
