When Johannes Soltermann was born on 25 March 1851, in Vechigen, Bern, Switzerland, his father, Johannes Soltermann, was 29 and his mother, Anna Barbara Butikofer, was 21. He married Rosina Gfeller on 18 November 1873, in Worb, Bern, Switzerland. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 2 daughters. He died on 9 July 1919, at the age of 68.
