When Catharine Dailey was born on 17 October 1798, in Allegheny, Pennsylvania, United States, her father, Nathan Dally Jr, was 33 and her mother, Christina Mary Huffman, was 21. She married Robert C Vance Sr. on 12 September 1816. They were the parents of at least 3 sons and 11 daughters. She lived in Washington Township, Guernsey, Ohio, United States for about 20 years. She died on 5 December 1877, in Old Washington, Guernsey, Ohio, United States, at the age of 79, and was buried in Sugartree Methodist Cemetery, Washington Township, Guernsey, Ohio, United States.
