When Gottlieb Grassle was born on 23 May 1815, in Akkerman, Bessarabia, Russian Empire, his father, Engelhard Gräßle, was 28 and his mother, Louisa Dorothea Freyhofer, was 26. He married Eva Schilling on 10 August 1834, in Tarutino, Bessarabia, Russian Empire. They were the parents of at least 5 sons and 4 daughters. He died in 1905, at the age of 90.
