When Dominik Heyrend was born on 20 August 1840, in Junglinster, Grevenmacher, Luxembourg, his father, Johann Nicolaus Heyrend, was 30 and his mother, Anne Margarete Schmit, was 26. He married Catherine Heck on 2 August 1866, in Frisange, Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg. They were the parents of at least 5 sons and 6 daughters. He died on 5 July 1918, in Esch-sur-Alzette, Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg, at the age of 77.

    Name Meaning

    From the Late Latin name Dominicus, a derivative of dominus ‘lord’. It was used mainly by Roman Catholics, in honour of St Dominic ( 1170–1221 ), founder of the Dominican order of monks, but has enjoyed wider appeal since the 1970s.
