He lived in Preston, Henry, Virginia, United States in 1850 and Preston, Virginia, United States in 1860. He died on 16 June 1872, in Aurora, Preston, West Virginia, United States, at the age of 64.

The Monumental Church was built between 1812-1814 on the sight where the Richmond Theatre fire had taken place. It is a monument to those that died in the fire.
The Crimes Act was made to provide a clearer punishment of certain crimes against the United States. Part of it includes: Changing the maximum sentence of imprisonment to be increased from seven to ten years and changing the maximum fine from $5,000 to $10,000.
