1940

Galloping Gertie is the reference used to describe the Tacoma Narrows Bridge. It opened on July 1, 1940 four months later it no longer existed. On November 7, 1940 the wind gusts came up to 40 miles an hour causing the bridge to twist and vibrate violently before it collapsed into Puget Sound. The only victim of the bridge collapsing was a three-legged paralyzed dog named Tubby whose owner tried to rescue him from the car but he wouldn’t go with him.

1948 · The Beginning of the Cold War

The Berlin Blockade was the first major crises of the Cold War. The Soviet Union blocked all access to the sectors of Berlin under Western control and offered to drop the blockade if the newly introduced Deutsche Mark was removed from West Berlin. The Berlin Blockade showed the different ideological and economic visions for postwar Europe. Even though there wasn't any fire fight during the cold war, many of these skirmishes arose and almost caused nuclear war on multiple occasions.
