When Cecil Ernest Coles was born on 13 June 1897, in New Zealand, his father, Charles Roby Coles, was 30 and his mother, Amalia Elisabeth Thodsen, was 25. He married Rosanna Maye Charters in 1923, in New Zealand. They were the parents of at least 1 son. He died in 1982, in his hometown, at the age of 85, and was buried in Taruheru Cemetery, Makauri, Gisborne, New Zealand.
