Matthew Wing (II) (M) b. 3 March 1763, d. 1 April 1813 Matthew was born at Batemantown, Dutchess, NY, on 3 March 1763. He was the son of Matthew Wing and Elizabeth Sisson. He married Katherine Butts [Bullis] at Danby, Rutland, Vermont, on 27 February 1782. He married Keziah Jenkins at Granville, Washington, NY, on 25 January 1787. He died at epidemic, So. Mt. Holly, Rutland, Vermont, on 1 April 1813. The Constitution of New York was adopted by the Convention of Representatives of the State of New York on April 20, 1777. New York’s Constitution preceded and strongly influenced the United States’ Constitution. Three governmental branches were created including the executive branch, the judicial branch, and the legislative branch made up of two houses.

Name Meaning

English: from the Middle English personal name Weng (Old West Scandinavian Wenge, perhaps originally a nickname from vengi ‘pillow, cushion’).

English and Scottish: habitational name from either Wing in Buckinghamshire or Wing in Rutland. The Buckinghamshire placename probably means ‘the people of Wiwa’, from an Old English personal name Wiwa + the Old English groupname suffix -ingas. The Rutland placename and probably derives from Old Norse vengi ‘field’.
