When Hans Ulrich Spiess was born in 1694, in Laufen-Uhwiesen, Zürich, Switzerland, his father, Christefel Spiess, was 17 and his mother, Barbara Zuber, was 13. He married Barbara Mueller on 24 January 1726. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 3 daughters. He died on 24 April 1763, in his hometown, at the age of 69.
