When Stephen H. Cherry was born in 1806, in New Haven, Oswego, New York, United States, his father, Samuel Cherry Jr, was 27 and his mother, Abigail "Nabby" Delano, was 21. He married Maria Martha Harris in 1831, in Canada. They were the parents of at least 4 sons and 7 daughters. He lived in Palatine, Cook, Illinois, United States for about 10 years and Belvidere, Thayer, Nebraska, United States in 1880. He died on 7 August 1887, at the age of 81, and was buried in New Lisbon, Juneau, Wisconsin, United States.

Being a second spiritual and religious awakening, like the First Great Awakening, many Churches began to spring up from other denominations. Many people began to rapidly join the Baptist and Methodist congregations. Many converts to these religions believed that the Awakening was the precursor of a new millennial age.

Name Meaning

English and Scottish: from Middle English chirie, cherye ‘cherry’, hence a metonymic occupational name for a grower or seller of cherries, or possibly a nickname for someone with rosy cheeks.

Probably in some cases a translation name of German Kirsch .
