When Thomas McCarty was born on 28 February 1737, in Hampshire, Virginia, United States, his father, Nicholas McCarty, was 11 and his mother, Mary Doane, was 12. He married Anne Scott on 1 September 1774, in District Township, Berks, Pennsylvania, United States. They were the parents of at least 5 sons and 4 daughters. He died on 22 November 1822, in Henry, Kentucky, United States, at the age of 85, and was buried in Henry, Kentucky, United States.
