He married Clarissa C Bertrand on 7 November 1878. He lived in Ninnescah Township, Sedgwick, Kansas, United States in 1910 and Clearwater, Sedgwick, Kansas, United States in 1915. He died on 17 June 1932, in Pasadena, Los Angeles, California, United States, at the age of 78, and was buried in Mountain View Cemetery and Mausoleum, Altadena, Los Angeles, California, United States.

1857 · The State Capital moves to Des Moines

The Capitol was located in Iowa City until the 1st General Assembly of Iowa recognized that the Capitol should be moved farther west than Iowa City. Land was found two miles from the Des Moines River to start construction of the new building. Today the Capitol building still stands on its original plot.

1875 · A Treaty with Hawaii

In the Mid 1870s, The United States sought out the Kingdom of Hawaii to make a free trade agreement. The Treaty gave the Hawaiians access to the United States agricultural markets and it gave the United States a part of land which later became Pearl Harbor.
