He married Elizabeth Harter on 1 November 1831, in Henry, Indiana, United States. They were the parents of at least 5 sons and 8 daughters. He lived in Round Prairie Township, Jefferson, Iowa, United States in 1860 and Bloomfield, Davis, Iowa, United States in 1870. He died on 18 January 1879, in Jefferson, Iowa, United States, at the age of 73, and was buried in Lambirth Cemetery, Henry, Iowa, United States.

1812 · Monumental Church Built

The Monumental Church was built between 1812-1814 on the sight where the Richmond Theatre fire had taken place. It is a monument to those that died in the fire.

1825 · The Crimes Act

The Crimes Act was made to provide a clearer punishment of certain crimes against the United States. Part of it includes: Changing the maximum sentence of imprisonment to be increased from seven to ten years and changing the maximum fine from $5,000 to $10,000.
