When Christina Nickel was born on 13 March 1926, in Lalomanu, Atua, Upolu, Samoa, her father, Karl Friedrich Wilhelm Nickel, was 44 and her mother, Vitolina Siolo Taitu'uga, was 33. She married Samuel Percy Churchward on 3 May 1947, in Apia, Tuamasaga, Upolu, Samoa. She died on 11 September 2002, in Wellington, New Zealand, at the age of 76, and was buried in Taitā, Lower Hutt, New Zealand.
