English (of Norman origin): habitational name for someone from Eu in Seine-Maritime, France, with fused preposition d(e). See Doe 2.

English: topographic name, perhaps from Middle English deudeaw, dywe ‘dew’, probably used in the sense ‘damp ground’ or ‘dew pond’.

Welsh: nickname meaning ‘stout, thickset’, Welsh tew, a soft-mutated form of dew. In some cases the name may arise from a North Welsh pronunciation of du ‘black, dark, swarthy’; however, this is normally Anglicized as Dye . See also Dee .
