When Albert Henri Long was born on 24 March 1878, in Pramollo, Turin, Piedmont, Italy, his father, James Henry Long, was 22 and his mother, Jacqueline Marie Long, was 19. He married Catherine Alice Beux on 1 October 1908. They were the parents of at least 1 son and 1 daughter. He died on 1 April 1943, at the age of 65.

1881 · The Assassination of James Garfield

Garfield was shot twice by Charles J. Guitea at Railroad Station in Washington, D.C. on July 2, 1881. After eleven weeks of intensive and other care Garfield died in Elberon, New Jersey, the second of four presidents to be assassinated, following Abraham Lincoln.

1882 · The Chinese Exclusion Act

A federal law prohibiting all immigration of Chinese laborers. The Act was the first law to prevent all members of a national group from immigrating to the United States.

1896 · Plessy vs. Ferguson

A landmark decision of the U.S. Supreme Court upholding the constitutionality of racial segregation laws for public facilities if the segregated facilities were equal in quality. It's widely regarded as one of the worst decisions in U.S. Supreme Court history.
