Name Meaning

German:

metonymic occupational name for someone who gathered or dealt in herbs, from Middle High German wërmuot ‘wormwood’.

perhaps also from the ancient Germanic personal name Warmut, composed of any of three verb forms meaning ‘to defend, protect, or warn’ + muot ‘intent, spirit’.
