When Simon Stevens was born on 17 June 1784, in Newfane, Windham, Vermont, United States, his father, Lemuel Stevens, was 31 and his mother, Hannah Green, was 33. He married Ruth Brown in 1812, in Plymouth, Grafton, New Hampshire, United States. They were the parents of at least 7 sons and 3 daughters. He died on 9 November 1865, at the age of 81, and was buried in Dunham, Missisquoi, Quebec, Canada.

1786 · Shays' Rebellion

Caused by war veteran Daniel Shays, Shays' Rebellion was to protest economic and civil rights injustices that he and other farmers were seeing after the Revolutionary War. Because of the Rebellion it opened the eyes of the governing officials that the Articles of Confederation needed a reform. The Rebellion served as a guardrail when helping reform the United States Constitution.

On March 4, 1791, Vermont became the 14th state.
