He married Elizabeth Wells on 2 July 1815, in German Flatts, Herkimer, New York, United States. They were the parents of at least 4 sons and 5 daughters. He died on 10 September 1849, in Hartland, Niagara, New York, United States, at the age of 53, and was buried in Hartland, Niagara, New York, United States.

1797 · Albany is Named Capital of New York

Albany became the capital of New York in 1797. Albany is the oldest continuous settlement of the original 13 colonies.

1800 · Movement to Washington D.C.

While the growth of the new nation was exponential, the United States didn’t have permanent location to house the Government. The First capital was temporary in New York City but by the second term of George Washington the Capital moved to Philadelphia for the following 10 years. Ultimately during the Presidency of John Adams, the Capital found a permanent home in the District of Columbia.
