When William Clifton was born on 9 September 1788, in Kentucky, United States, his father, Houson Clifton, was 26 and his mother, Nancy Brashear, was 23. He married Elizabeth Lyons on 27 May 1811, in Washington, Kentucky, United States. They were the parents of at least 3 sons and 4 daughters. He lived in Richland Township, Fountain, Indiana, United States in 1850. He died on 15 January 1855, in Wingate, Coal Creek Township, Montgomery, Indiana, United States, at the age of 66, and was buried in Dry Run Cemetery, Mellott, Richland Township, Fountain, Indiana, United States.
