When Roelf Driessens was born on 30 January 1811, in Winschoten, Groningen, Netherlands, his father, Freerk Berents Driessens, was 48 and his mother, Grietje Roelfs Kuipers, was 36. He married Foktje Steenhuis on 17 May 1851, in Nieuwolda, Groningen, Netherlands. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 4 daughters. He died on 14 March 1897, in his hometown, at the age of 86.
