The Missouri Compromise helped provide the entrance of Maine as a free state and Missouri as a slave state into the United States. As part of the compromise, slavery was prohibited north of the 36°30′ parallel, excluding Missouri.

History: The (majority of the) Dilts family trace their origin to the brothers Wilhelm and Johann Peter Dils (also Dilss) from Urbach, Germany, who settled with their families in NJ in the first half of the 18th century.
