When Karolina Vaterlaus was born on 20 November 1839, in Zürich, Switzerland, her father, Johannes Vaterlaus, was 47 and her mother, Anna Elisabetha B. Egg, was 44. She married Kristian Burkhalter on 24 December 1866, in Neumünster, Zürich, Switzerland. They were the parents of at least 1 daughter. She died on 12 June 1918, in her hometown, at the age of 78, and was buried in Zürich, Switzerland.
