When Nils Nilsson was born on 16 November 1794, in Barsebäck, Harjager, Malmöhus, Sweden, his father, Nils Matsson, was 26 and his mother, Elna Nilsdotter, was 29. He married Boel Larsdotter on 26 December 1821, in Barsebäck, Harjager, Malmöhus, Sweden. They were the parents of at least 7 sons and 1 daughter. He died on 8 February 1858, in his hometown, at the age of 63, and was buried in Barsebäck, Harjager, Malmöhus, Sweden.
