When Marinus Pedersen was born on 8 November 1853, in Ugilt, Sejlstrup, Denmark, his father, Peder Andersen Larsen, was 28 and his mother, Ellen Marie Sorensdatter, was 28. He married Mete Marie Tomine Andersen on 9 March 1875, in Mosbjerg, Hjørring, Denmark. They were the parents of at least 7 sons and 3 daughters. He lived in Ugilt, Vennebjerg, Hjørring, Denmark in 1855 and Sigtenborg, Ugilt, Vennebjerg, Hjørring, Denmark in 1860. He died on 21 April 1922, in Oakland, Alameda, California, United States, at the age of 68.

1857 · 7.9 Earthquake In Fort Tejon

The Fort Tejon earthquake, on January 9, 1857, registered at 7.9, making it one of the largest earthquakes ever recorded in the United States. Only two people were killed, largely due to the sparse population in the area where the earthquake occurred. As a result of the large scale shaking, the Kern River was turned upstream and fish were stranded miles from Tulare Lake as the waters were rocked so far from its banks.

1859 · Copenhagen Waterworks

The Copenhagen Waterworks was the first waterworks in Denmark and served the community until 1951. It was one of the first buildings to be built outside Copenhagen's old city walls.

1872 · The First National Park

Yellowstone National Park was given the title of the first national park by the U.S. Congress and signed into law by President Ulysses S. Grant. It is also believed to be the first national park in the world.
