    Name Meaning

From the Late Latin name Constantinus, a derivative of Constans; see Constant . In early modern English the names Constant and Constantine were not always clearly distinguished. The Roman emperor Constantine the Great ( ?288–337 ) is specially honoured in the Christian Church as the first Christian emperor. The name was also borne by three kings of medieval Scotland, where it represents an Anglicized form of the Gaelic name Conn , and is a traditional name in the Phipps (Marquesses of Normanby) family.
