When Lucy Winship was born in May 1801, in New York, United States, her father, Richard Winship II, was 38 and her mother, Sarah Terrell, was 37. She married Rev Hiram Ira Chase on 1 July 1818, in Jerusalem, Yates, New York, United States. They were the parents of at least 4 sons and 3 daughters. She died on 13 May 1842, in Cameron, Steuben, New York, United States, at the age of 41, and was buried in Bonney Hill Cemetery, Thurston, Steuben, New York, United States.

1803

France sells Louisiana territories to U.S.A.

1803 · The U.S doubles in size

The United States purchased all the Louisiana territory (828,000 sq. mi) from France, only paying 15 million dollars (A quarter trillion today) for the land. In the purchase, the US obtained the land that makes up 15 US states and 2 Canadian Provinces. The United States originally wanted to purchase of New Orleans and the lands located on the coast around it, but quickly accepted the bargain that Napoleon Bonaparte offered.

With the Aftermath of the Napoleonic Wars the global market for trade was down. During this time, America had its first financial crisis and it lasted for only two years. 

Name Meaning

English (Durham and Northumberland): of uncertain origin. Reaney suggests that it may be a habitational name from Wincheap Street in Canterbury (Kent), but this origin is not supported by the present-day distribution of the surname, which is heavily concentrated in northeastern England.
