    1866 · The First Civil Rights Act

    The first federal law that defined what was citizenship and affirm that all citizens are equally protected by the law. Its main objective was to protect the civil rights of persons of African descent.

    1867 · Sorry Mr. President, You can't do that.

    This Act was to restrict the power of the President removing certain office holders without approval of the Senate. It denies the President the power to remove any executive officer who had been appointed by the president with the advice and consent of the Senate, unless the Senate approved the removal during the next full session of Congress. The Amendment was later repealed.

    1868 · Impeach the President!

    Caused by many crimes and breaking the Tenure of Office Act, Many Senators and House Representatives became angry with President Johnson and began discussions of his Impeachment. After a special session of Congress, the Articles of Impeachment were approved by the House and then the Senate. Making Andrew Johnson the first President to be Impeached.
