When Johan Bartholome Frischknecht was born in November 1781, in Schwellbrunn, Appenzell Ausserrhoden, Switzerland, his father, Johann Bartholome Frischknecht, was 33 and his mother, Elisabeth Frischknecht, was 30. He married Anna Barbara Schläpfer on 7 June 1803, in Schwellbrunn, Appenzell Ausserrhoden, Switzerland. He died on 1 February 1823, at the age of 41, and was buried in Switzerland.
