When Rebecca Driskell was born on 18 November 1791, in Woodford, Ashe, North Carolina, United States, her father, Timothy Driskill, was 42 and her mother, Priscilla Dobbins, was 38. She married Willis Atkins on 17 January 1814, in Mercer, Kentucky, United States. She died in 1819, at the age of 28.

In 1799, in Little Meadow Creak located in Cabarrus County, North Carolina a large yellow ""rock"" was found by Conrad Reed. A few years later it was determined that the ""rock"" was a gold nugget.
