    Name Meaning

Transferred use of the surname, which derives from a place name, probably Hailey in Oxfordshire, which was originally named from Old English hēg ‘hay’ + lēah ‘clearing’. Use as a given name began in the 1960s, inspired perhaps by the actress Hayley Mills ( b. 1946 ), daughter of Sir John Mills and Mary Hayley Bell , and enjoyed great popularity until the late 1990s.
