    History: The name Hodgkinson has long had two main areas of concentration; in western Lancashire, England, around Preston, and in northern Derbyshire around Ashover. It appears in the Preston guild rolls in 1582 in the spelling Hogekynson. The English actor John Hodgkinson came to NY in 1792.
