1942 · The Japanese American internment

Age 1

Caused by the tensions between the United States and the Empire of Japan, the internment of Japanese Americans caused many to be forced out of their homes and forcibly relocated into concentration camps in the western states. More than 110,000 Japanese Americans were forced into these camps in fear that some of them were spies for Japan.

1942 · Holloman Air Force Base Established

On February 6, 1942, Holloman Air Force Base in Alamogordo, New Mexico was established. It was named after Col. George Holloman, who was the pioneer in early rocket and pilot-less aircraft research. Units from this Air Force Base were the first in the Pacific Islands after Pearl Harbor was bombed.
