Vili Tonu Latu was born about 1884, in Ha'apai, Tonga as the son of Viliami Latu and Manu'ala. He married Latai Makasini Tufulele about 1893, in Pangai, Ha'apai, Tonga. They were the parents of at least 4 sons and 2 daughters. He died on 13 November 1946, in his hometown, at the age of 63, and was buried in Ha'apai, Tonga.
