When Solomon M Shirey was born on 13 January 1834, in Mayport, Redbank Township, Clarion, Pennsylvania, United States, his father, John Shiry, was 44 and his mother, Maria Shaffer, was 30. He married Mary Mariah Alsbach on 11 April 1857, in Lucas, Ohio, United States. They were the parents of at least 4 sons and 4 daughters. He lived in Watervliet, Berrien, Michigan, United States in 1880 and Home, Pierce, Washington, United States in 1920. He died on 30 November 1925, in Los Angeles, California, United States, at the age of 91, and was buried in Los Angeles National Cemetery, Los Angeles, Los Angeles, California, United States.
