    Name Meaning

North German: from a pet form of the personal name Friedrich .

English: perhaps from an unrecorded Middle English fik, fig, a derivative of Middle English fiken ‘to move quickly or restlessly, to shrink, flinch, retreat hurriedly’. The sense might be ‘fidgety (person)’; compare modern English dialect fig and fidge ‘to move restlessly, fidget’, and see also Figg . Alternatively, this may be a nickname from unrecorded Middle English fik, perhaps from Old English gefic ‘deceit’ or back-formed from Middle English fikel ‘deceitful’ (Old English ficol). See Ficker .

English (of Norman origin): from Old French fike, a Norman French variant of Old French fiche ‘pointed implement for fixing or transfixing something or someone’. See Fitch .
