The Tron riot was a riot which occurred in Edinburgh, Scotland on New Year's Eve. A group of young men attacked and robbed wealthier passers-by. One police officer was killed in the riot. The Northamptonshire place appears in Domesday Book as Fodringeia, probably from Old English fōdring ‘grazing’ (a derivative of fōdor ‘fodder’) + ēg ‘island, low-lying land’. In the case of the Scottish place, the final element was replaced by -hām ‘homestead’.
