When Tilly Peabody was born on 16 May 1814, in Mount Holly, Rutland, Vermont, United States, his father, Moses Peabody, was 25 and his mother, Betsy Hosmer, was 24. He married Caroline Pettit in May 1838. They were the parents of at least 2 daughters. He lived in Beaver Township, Crawford, Pennsylvania, United States in 1850 and Minnesota, United States in 1875. He died on 12 October 1887, in Alden, Freeborn, Minnesota, United States, at the age of 73.

1819 · Panic! of 1819

1820 · Making States Equal

The Missouri Compromise helped provide the entrance of Maine as a free state and Missouri as a slave state into the United States. As part of the compromise, slavery was prohibited north of the 36°30′ parallel, excluding Missouri.

1834 · Vermont Anti-Slavery Society is Formed

The Anti-Slavery Society of Vermont was established in 1834. 100 people from different towns were at the first meeting, with the intent to abolish slavery.
