Name Meaning
English: habitational name from at least one lost minor place called Hopcroft or Hobcroft, of which an early example is recorded in Oxfordshire. The location of any of these places cannot be identified with certainty. The placename probably meant ‘Hob's croft’, deriving from a pet form of the personal name Robert (see Hobb ) + Middle English croft ‘enclosure, small field’.
