He married Margareth Holenweger on 11 November 1803, in Brienz, Bern, Switzerland. They were the parents of at least 5 sons and 2 daughters. He died on 17 October 1858, in his hometown, at the age of 75, and was buried in Brienz, Bern, Switzerland.
