He married Rebecca Wilder about 1709, in Lancaster, Worcester, Massachusetts, United States. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 1 daughter. He died in July 1720, in his hometown, at the age of 36.

Witcombe in Somerset is named with Old English wīthig ‘willow’ + cumb, and the placename Whitcombe in Devon is from Old English hwǣte ‘wheat’ + cumb. The surname may also derive from a lost place in Sussex.
