When Mary Theresa Betham was born on 11 March 1926, in Apia, Tuamasaga, Upolu, Samoa, her father, John Joseph Ernest Betham, was 36 and her mother, Mary Theresa Muban Fruean, was 31. She married Angus "Pa'o" Mason Macdonald on 11 May 1948, in Samoa. She died on 12 May 1999, in her hometown, at the age of 73, and was buried in Upolu, Samoa.
