He married Maren Mortensen on 19 September 1873, in Em, Børglum, Denmark. They were the parents of at least 4 sons. He lived in Saltum, Hvetbo, Hjørring, Denmark in 1860. He died in 1910, in Iowa, Iowa, United States, at the age of 61.
