Maudie Bell McGuire

Brief Life History of Maudie Bell

Maudie Bell was raised by her father and step-mother, Catherine E. Scott McGuire, after her mother Mary died. Her mother died after giving birth to a boy. The baby also died. Maudie came to Hastings, NE to visit Bill and me in about 1954. It was the 1st time I ever spent any time with my mother-in-law. We both liked to crochet. She also liked to play cards. We played cards and crocheted a lot the 2 weeks she was there. She got acquainted with her 2 grandsons, Billy Joe and Harvey Dean. Her stay was short but it was nice. That was the last time we saw her. She did write but not often. The last time we heard from her she had married a man by the name Paul Day. The day she died, Grandma McGuire called, told us of Bill's mother's death and asked if we would take her to Phoenix. Bill's oldest brother, Vernon, was living there at that time. We went to McCook and picked up Grandma. Our boys were left with my parents. We buried Maudie and then returned home. Above from notes of Joey Sailors
